My baby is 1 week old already!!

So, we have settled in. My mom stayed with us the first day to help us and then left to see how we could do things on our own. We actually did really well. It helped that our child is PERFECT! I mean really, he is quite the angel baby. He slept through the night only waking for feedings and then went right back to sleep, from the beginning. I am soo thankful for that. (I'll write more about this in the coming weeks). Before we left the hospital Aiden was diagnosed with Jaundice so we had to load him up and take him back to the hospital everyday to get bloodwork drawn until the situation cleared up, luckily it didn't take long and she only had to get poked 3 extra times after we returned home. I will admit that the first night home was the scariest. I had a minor, okay major breakdown. Here is what happened. When we got home we tried a new pacie, a tiny one we refer to as "binky". Aiden could actually keep this one in his mouth! So we were loving Binky, at first. Later that day, I went to feed Aiden and he wouldn't latch on, he has been a great latcher and eater from the very beginning so I couldn't understand after all those days and nights in the hospital why he just wouldn't cooperate now! I blamed it on the Binky, it must have given his nipple confusion right?!? So, I banned anyone from giving him the binky and we stuck to the good ole Soothie pacie instead (you have to hold the darn thing in his mouth). So, a couple more feedings went down that way and I was frustrated and worried. He cried (which he never does) so hard and I know it was because he wasn't eating enough. He started arching his back and doing a few other odd things. At about 1:00 that morning, when he wouldn't latch on for that feeding either, I did what no new mother should do...I got on the internet and all of his symptoms lined up with a kind of brain damage caused by Jaundice. I burst into tears, woke up Zach and insisted that we take him to the doctor right then. Zach went and got my mom from the other room and I was hysterical. There was nothing they could say or do, I just KNEW my little boy was suffering from brain damage and I had to get him help. Mom convinced me to call the pediatrician and she assured me that his billirubin levels were not high enough to cause this type of brain damage. I also told her about the new "latching on" issues and she informed me that my milk had come in (I surely didn't know it) and that the baby was used to latching on to a soft surface that is now rock hard...a warm compress or pumping should fix the problem. Sure enough, it worked! I stayed up and stared at him the rest of the night. In fact, I did that my first few nights as a mother. So, even though HE was a good sleeper, I was not.

I will take this time to plug the AngelCare Baby Movement Monitor! I don't know what i would do without this sucker. You put it under the baby's mattress and it detects his breathing. It sends an alarm if he has stopped breathing for more than 20 seconds.....Wow, it really works, I promise! And it is the only way I’ve gotten any sleep so far.

Here is a few pictures of him but I promise I will post more soon!

Labor and Delivery

Yes our precious little Aiden Michael was born on October 22, 2009 at 1:42PM. He weighed 8 lbs 4ozand was 20 inches long. I don't even know where to begin and I have already welled up just thinking about his little journey into life.

First I just have to say that the love I have for Aiden is so overwhelming it’s hard to control my emotions just thinking of him. I now know how every parent feels for their child....including mine. This is one of the reasons we are on this earth and it is just so beautiful. I have also found a new love for Zach. Just watching him with Aiden is the most amazing thing...he is already such a great daddy and Aiden is only 1 day old. I don't know what I would ever do without him.

So while I have some quiet time at the hospital I thought I would tell you what has happened so far. First off let me tell you labor SUCKS! But at about 7AM I woke up with some mild contractions. I kind of just kept an eye on them and went on with my normal morning routine. At about 8AM they still were getting more intense so I thought I better call Zach at work. We talked and decided that I would call my mom to come over with me and Zach would come home soon. So I called my mom and she came over. At about 9AM I felt my water break and new I needed to get ready to go to the hospital. Zach got home quick and he took me to the hospital while my mom picked up my little sister from school and my big sister from home and met us at the hospital.

When we got there I got checked in right away and put in a room. They checked me soon after and I was dilated to 4. I was in so much pain already it was ridiculous. I was seriously balling. I asked for an epidural right away and it took 1 ½ for the guy to get to me. I was livid! J I feel bad for Zach, my mom and sisters J. But finally he got there and was my hero! About 4 hours later it started to wear off and I got miserable again. They checked me again and I was about 9 cm dilated! They called the doctor and had me start to push. That was so hard!

So after about an hour of pushing, Aiden Michael was born at 1:42 PM! That had to be on of the best moments of my life seeing my baby boy that I waited 9 months for for the first time. I broke down in tears and was sooo happy.

We are all doing great! Aiden is sleeping and my mom and Zach went home for a few hours to get some rest. I have had soo many visitors already and I’m sure more to come tomorrow. It was so nice to see people I love come to support me. I think I am coming home Sunday if all goes well. I will try to post pictures soon. I don’t know what it will be like but I will try to very soon.

Thank you to everyone who has been there for me and put up with me. I love you!

37 WEEKS!!!!!!!!

Say hello to i'msotiredican'tfunction. Say hello to icouldnotpickmyfeetoutofalineupifitried. Hello idrinknon-stop. Hi thereissomuchtodobutican'tmakemyselfdoit.

I tried to paint my own toenails his week. I thought I could do it with my patented rocking motion, but I ended up just throwing nail polish at my toes and hoping it would land on "non-skin". Most of it didn't. So Nat and I headed to get a MUCH NEEDED pedicure. Another accomplishment on my list...I shaved my legs! If I missed any spots...I certainly can't see them, so, it doesn't count!

I did get to meet our pediatrician. I scheduled a "get to know you" appointment with the most recommended baby doctor in Pace and I see why she is...she was great! She answered all my questions and acted like she was really glad I wanted to meet her early :) I was feeling a little dumb about it so I'm glad she reassured me.

Zach joined me for our last newborn parenting class and it was pretty cool. They had a pediatrician there who taught us all about the immunizations, what they were, why people worry about them, and when our baby would get each one. It was nice to know. He also answered all the questions everyone had. They didn't make Zach change a diaper but he will!

Zach and I are SOOOOO excited! We can not wait!
